This is a fashion film I made during my last year at University.
‘Threads That Talk’ is a film I made that was first inspired by the word 'Sonder' as I feel it is an important word to be reminded of in today’s world. "Sonder - the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own - populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness - an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you'll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk." [Koenig, 2009]
I was drawn to this as a concept because people quite often forget that they are not alone and other people are experiencing life at the same time. However, I wanted to be more specific and rather than tell the story of sonder through people, I wanted to tell it through the perspective of clothing. As if clothing had it's own mind and could tell us all the stories of the people that had worn them. Clothing gets to see us at our most imtimate moments and I wanted to show that dispite the different lives people are living, they are still connected by a single piece of clothing that has seen us behind closed doors.
